By mid-afternoon we’re racing a snowstorm across the Alichur Plain. As the afternoon disappears, we summit the Koi-Tezek Pass at 14,097 feet and are painfully aware at just how cold we’ve become. Our concentration wanders and wanes as our blood centralizes in our cores to protect important organs.
