Unexpected predators

A pair of Black-headed Grosbeaks feed on Monarch butterflies in the early morning at Santuario El Rosario, Michoacán, Mexico. Unlike most predators, grosbeaks can tolerate the Monarch’s toxins and they specifically target the abdomen, where toxic scales are sparse, allowing safer consumption.
