Isma’il rests inside his bunka, the name given to the makeshift homes within the landfill. An estimated 500 such structures form a dense informal settlement inhabited by people who both live and work on the site. Residents collect metal, plastic, electronics, and other materials that can be sold to survive. Despite their essential role in waste recovery and recycling, they live in highly vulnerable conditions, with limited access to basic services.
