August 2016, the ISIS retreats under pressure from Iraqi forces supported by the international coalition and sets fire to oil wells. 11 wells have been extinguished, 12 remain to be extinguished.

يتصاعد الدخان على ارتفاع أكثر من 300 متر ويحجب السماء. يتشكّل نهرٌ مجمّد من النفط في الموقع.
في شهر أغسطس 2016، تراجع تنظيم داعش الإرهابي تحت ضغط القوات العراقية المدعومة من التحالف الدولي وأضرم النار في آبار النفط. تمّ إخماد النار في 11 بئراً، والعمل جارٍ على الآبار المشتعلة المتبقية التي يبلغ عددها 12.
