يستحمّ فيلٌ ضخم بالتراب بعد عبور نهر مارا في محمية ماساي مارا الوطنية بكينيا. ويساهم كلٌّ من الطين والتراب في الحفاظ على صحة بشرة الفيل وتبريده. وتعد الفيلة من الحيوانات المهدّدة بالانقراض بسبب ارتفاع الطلب على مادة العاج التي تتكوّن منها أنياب الفيل. تحتضن منظومة محمية مارا-سيرينغيتي البيئية الكبرى 2,500 فيل وتمتدّ على مساحة 6 آلاف كيلومتر مربع.
