Ashura in Piraeus

November 25, 2012 — Piraeus: Outside Azakhana Gulzare Zainab, around 600 Pakistani Shiite Muslims gather for the Ashura commemoration. The flower-decorated Tabut and the sacred black horse of Hussein are carried in procession before the faithful perform Zanjeer self-flagellation, a ritual of purification through blood.
