A Melasti Ceremony
Along Bali’s coastline, devotees observe Melasti, an annual purification rite held a few days before the Balinese New Year Day. The ritual’s purpose is to symbolically return spiritual impurities to the ocean so that village temples and households begin their New Year in a state of ritual purity.
